According to historians, this temple was also registered in the documents by the Heritage Department in 1965. This area is considered to be a part of the historical ‘Kota Katta’ mud fort area, which is famous for its ancient structures and heritage. Experts say that if the administration had wanted, the temple could have been saved or shifted to another place.

What were the allegations made in the complaint?

The matter became more heated when Telangana rights activist and lawyer Rama Rao Immaneni filed a complaint with the National Monuments Authority. After this, the Union Ministry of Culture and Archeology Department took cognizance of the matter and registered a case. The complaint alleged that construction work was carried out in the temple area without the approval of the Archeology and Endowment Department, which is a violation of the law. It was also alleged that the state government has not yet constituted the mandatory Heritage Conservation Committee, due to which the protection of such historical heritage has become weak.

What explanation did the district administration give?

After the controversy escalated, the Warangal district administration gave clarification. The Collector’s office said that there was no protected monument registered there and only old dilapidated remains were found among the bushes, which were being cleaned. The administration denied the allegations of deliberately demolishing the temple. However, as public anger increased, Warangal Collector Dr. Satya Sharda and Narsampet MLA Donthi Madhav Reddy reached the spot. He assured that the temple will be rebuilt at the same place. For this, help of historians, architectural experts and archeology department will be taken. Along with this, the process of declaring the temple site as officially protected heritage will also be started.
