The Ministry of Communications has released a fund of ₹271 crore to develop indigenous 6G technology. According to Union Minister of State for Communications Pemmasani Chandra Shekhar, these projects will be completed by startups, research institutes and industry players so that by 2030, India can become one of the select countries in the world where 6G service will be available. How much will the world change after the arrival of 6G? (The Impact) 6G will not only be the speed of the internet, but will be a new digital era: Superfast Speed: The internet speed of 6G will be 10 times (up to 100 times according to some reports) faster than 5G. Real-time Hologram: Instead of a video call, now a 3D hologram of a person will be in front of you, due to which the virtual conversation will seem absolutely real. Smart City and Robotics: Self-driving without any lag (Zero Latency). Technologies like cars and remote surgery will be possible. Indigenous technology: India aims to make its own chips and software to reduce dependence on foreign companies. Launch Timeline: 2030 target (The Roadmap) The government has prepared a spectrum roadmap for the next 10 years for the 6G rollout, which is divided into three phases: Short term (2025–2026): Research and initial testing phase. Mid term (2027–2030): Field trials and infrastructure development. Long term (2031–2035): Expansion across the country and use of new applications. Government’s Investment and VisionTTDF Fund: Funds have been allocated through ‘Telecom Technology Development Fund’ (TTDF) for 104 projects. 100 5G Labs: 100 labs have already been set up in various educational institutions in the country. Global leadership: India aims to achieve 10% share in global 6G patents.
