Tensions rise in the Middle East: Iran attacks 7 US bases, raising questions about Russia’s role

Tehran. A major development has emerged amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East. Reports indicate that Iran has targeted at least seven United States military bases in the Gulf region . These attacks reportedly damaged US military communications and radar systems.

According to the report, the attacks carried out during the weekend and Monday took place near US military bases located in Bahrain , Qatar , Kuwait , Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates .

Command network targeted

The main targets of these attacks were satellite communication terminals, radar domes and other equipment considered the backbone of the US military’s command-and-control network in the Gulf region, The New York Times reported.

One of the biggest attacks took place at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar , which is considered to be the largest US military base in the region.

Apart from this, there have been reports of Iranian drone attacks targeting areas around the US embassies in Riyadh and Kuwait, as well as oil and gas infrastructure in Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

Russia behind the precise targets?

The analysis also raises questions about how Iran was able to gather such precise information about US military bases. The Washington Post reports that Russia has been providing Iran with intelligence on the movements of US warships and aircraft since the war began .

US officials believe Iran’s ability to track US forces was weakened in the early weeks of the war, and the intelligence from Russia proved crucial for Tehran.

Ukraine war equation

According to a US official, Russia is well aware of the extent of US military aid to Ukraine . By supporting Iran, Moscow is indirectly trying to pressure the US.

China is currently far away

Despite China and Iran’s close ties, there is currently no information suggesting Beijing is providing military assistance to Tehran in this conflict. Analysts say Iran’s defense cooperation with Russia is much stronger.

Iran-Russia relations strengthen

Iran has become one of Moscow’s key allies since Russia launched a large-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Iran reportedly provided Russia with technology and inexpensive strike drones , which were used in attacks on several Ukrainian cities.

Iran is in no mood to back down

Despite joint US and Israeli actions, Iran has shown no signs of backing down. It continues to pursue a strategy of pressuring the US and its allies by targeting military and energy infrastructure.

At the same time, US President Donald Trump has also indicated that the duration of this conflict is not fixed and both sides feel that ultimately the opponent will surrender first.

Analysts believe that if Russia’s intelligence support continues in this manner, Iran’s attacks on US bases in the Gulf region may intensify in the future.
