Tesla Cars: Tesla is bringing a new 6-seater version of Model Y, know the price and features

Tesla Cars: American electric vehicle maker Tesla is preparing to launch a new and bigger version of its most popular SUV Tesla Model Y in India. The name of this new model is Tesla Model YL, which can be introduced in the Indian market by next week. The new version of Model Y is considered to be an attempt to strengthen Tesla’s hold in the Indian market in terms of more space and features.

6-seater and long wheelbase
The new Model YL will come with three-row seating, which will accommodate 6 passengers. This is a long wheelbase version, which will offer more space and comfort especially for large families. This model was first launched in China last year and is currently being produced in Shanghai Gigafactory, from where it will be brought to India.

Tesla’s new bet in India
This will be Tesla’s first new product in India, as the company started selling the 5-seater Model Y in July 2025. However, Tesla’s sales in India were not as expected. In the year 2025, the company could sell only 227 cars, due to which a discount of up to Rs 2 lakh was given to attract customers.

Challenge of expensive imports and low demand
In India, there is a heavy tax of 70% to 110% on imported cars, which makes Tesla vehicles very expensive. This is the reason why the company wants to generate new interest in the market by updating its portfolio through the new Model YL.

Price and Global Plan
The starting price of Model YL in China is around $49,679 (about ₹42 lakh). Tesla has indicated that this model will not be limited to China only, but can also be launched in India along with markets like Australia and New Zealand.

It is noteworthy that Tesla’s global sales have declined in the last two years and in 2025, the company lost its top position in the electric car market to BYD. In such a situation, Model YL can prove to be an important step for Tesla.
