Tessa Thompson set to star in Netflix’s upcoming thriller series

Tessa Thompson is attached as star and executive producer for the new dark comedic thriller from Love Life creator Sam Boyd, with A24 backing the project.

Netflix has secured the thriller series and is now on fast-track development.

The TV show is assembling a writers’ room as the streamer moves quickly to capitalise on what insiders describe as one of the most competitive pitches of the year.

A24 initially acquired Boyd’s spec script in a nine-studio bidding war before developing it internally and securing Thompson for the lead role.

While plot specifics remain tightly guarded, Next Door is said to explore marriage, suspicion, and simmering paranoia in the American suburbs, drawing tonal inspiration from Little Children and Rear Window.

Boyd will serve as writer, director, showrunner and executive producer. Thompson will executive produce under her Viva Maude banner alongside producing partner Kishori Rajan, with Joe Hipps producing through A24-based Cut To.

The project marks another high-profile television move for Thompson, who continues to balance studio franchises with more psychologically layered storytelling.
