Thai authorities have recently intensified their crackdown on illegal immigration, arresting 42 foreigners who paid tens of thousands of baht to illegally enter the country in search of work.

The crackdown on illegal immigration was conducted under the direction of Governor of Kanchanaburi Province Warittha Sanguansermsri and Commander of the Kanchanaburi provincial Police Maj. Gen. Phosawi Rueangphu.

A working group from the Lad Ya Task Force closely monitored and prevented the illegal entry of Myanmar workers through the Nam Koek joint checkpoint in Sangkhlaburi District, Kanchanaburi Province. In addition, the force coordinated patrols along natural routes. Authorities discovered and apprehended two groups totalling 42 people, including 24 men and 18 women, who were attempting to illegally enter Thailand in Sangkhlaburi District.

Initial investigations revealed that all 42 arrested individuals confessed to illegally entering Thailand via natural routes to work in inner provinces. Each person paid brokers varying fees, ranging from 15,000 to 30,000 baht (US$475-950), depending on the distance. They were arrested while hiding in the forest and waiting for accomplices.

All 42 individuals have now been transferred to the Sangkhlaburi Police Station for prosecution on charges of illegal entry into Thailand.
