Thalapathy Vijay Divorce: Tamil film industry superstar and Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay is in the news these days for his upcoming film as well as his personal life. It is reported that his wife Sangeeta Sornalingam has filed a divorce petition. After almost 27 years of marriage, this couple has reached the verge of separation.
Allegation of extra marital affair
According to reports, Sangeeta has filed a divorce petition in Chengalpattu Family Court. He has alleged in his application that Vijay had an extramarital affair with an actress. Sangeeta claims that after coming to know about the relationship in April 2021, Vijay had assured her to end it, but the relationship reportedly continued. Due to this he had to face severe mental stress.
Allegation of change in behavior on raising questions
According to the petition filed in the court, when Sangeeta raised questions about this alleged relationship, there was a change in Vijay’s behavior. They have alleged that their domestic rights were limited, restrictions were imposed on their movement and financial matters were also restricted. Sangeeta has demanded divorce citing mental torture and cruelty. He has filed a petition under the Special Marriage Act, 1954, under which divorce can be sought on grounds like adultery and cruelty.

It is being told that Vijay and Sangeeta are living separately for the last two years. Sangeetha belongs to a Sri Lankan Tamil family and was brought up in the United Kingdom. Whereas Vijay, known to his fans as ‘Thalapathy’, has recently become active in politics after staying away from films. His party Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam is being seen as an emerging political force in Tamil Nadu.
27 year old relationship
Vijay and Sangeeta were married as per Hindu rituals on 25 August 1999, after which a grand reception was held in Chennai. Vijay is a Christian while Sangeeta is from a Hindu family. After marriage, their son Jason Sanjay was born in the year 2000 and daughter Divya Sasha was born in 2005. Now, after about 27 years, this relationship seems to be moving towards legal end.
