Thane will play an important role in making Maharashtra a 1.5 trillion dollar economy – Chief Minister

Mumbai Mumbai. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Saturday said the state should focus on eight strategic sectors to become a USD 1.5 trillion economy by 2047 and asserted Thane has to play a key role in achieving this target.Addressing the MMR Thane Vikas Sammelan 2024, Shinde said his government is working to ensure that the Mumbai Metropolitan Region's economy touches the USD 300 billion mark by 2030.

He said that NITI Aayog has suggested these eight strategic areas and a system involving monthly reviews, dedicated war rooms, etc. has been put in place to achieve these. These areas include AI and robotics, global capability centres and data centres, etc. The CM said that projects like Atal Setu, coastal road and eastern freeway will enhance regional connectivity and boost the economy of the region, especially Thane.

He said various tests and trials at the Navi Mumbai International Airport will begin by the end of September, while plans are being made to bring air connectivity to Palghar and set up a mega port at Wadhwan near Dahanu. The CM said Maharashtra accounted for 52 per cent of the FDI received by the country in the first quarter of 2024-25, while MoUs worth Rs 5.8 lakh crore have been signed for other high-technology sectors, including semiconductor and electric vehicle manufacturing. He said all efforts should be made to make Thane's economy touch the USD 150 billion mark by 2030 and assured the stakeholders of his government's full support.
