The 1st Electric Cars From Renault And Nissan Will Both Be SUVs: Details
Renault and Nissan recently announced their new strategy for the Indian market. Both brands have been dormant in the Indian market for a while and now wish to come up with new and interesting products to strengthen their presence and position in the market. Both brands are already in a partnership, and they have structurally reorganized their operations to launch an aggressive product offensive. Apart from ICE, they have plans to come up with EVs for the Indian market too. The first electric car from both Nissan and Renault is going to be an SUV, and here is what we know about it so far.
Renault earlier this year had shared its plans to enter the highly competitive sub-4-meter SUV segment with a new product. They showcased the Bridger concept, and what made this concept special is the fact that this SUV is developed and designed by Renault’s team in India. The Bridger concept is expected to hit the production line by the festive season next year. Once Renault launches the Bridger, a Nissan version of the same SUV is also expected to come to the market.

Renault Bridger is based on the R-GMP architecture. It is being developed as a true multi-energy vehicle. This means that the upcoming SUV will be offered with petrol, hybrid, and EV powertrains.
The exterior design of the EV is going to be inspired by the ICE versions. The major changes would be seen in the grille, nose, and alloy wheel designs. Renault is yet to reveal the exact details of this EV. However, we have a fair idea of what to expect from both the EVs. While mechanically both Renault and Nissan EVs may remain the same, they both would come with different exterior designs.

Bridger EV will be an extremely important product for Renault as it would be its first electric vehicle in the Indian market. It is expected to be positioned in such a manner that it offers a balance between practicality and price. At the moment, it is assumed that Renault will be offering the Bridger EV with 35 kWh and 55 kWh battery packs. This would actually offer the SUV a real-world range of over 400 km.

This would make the SUV a practical option among buyers who are in the market for an EV. As mentioned above, the Bridger is an SUV that is developed and made in India, and that means heavy localization. This would directly help Renault in pricing the SUV aggressively. If Renault can crack the code, they will have a rugged-looking, boxy electric SUV that looks compact on the outside and spacious on the inside.

Once Renault launches the Bridger EV, we would see Nissan’s version come to the market too. It would get an exterior design that would sit in line with new-age Nissan SUVs. Both EVs would offer the same set of features, and they are likely to be priced similarly too. The Renault Bridger is expected to get launched by 2028, while the Nissan version is expected to get launched around 6 months after that.
