Tributes were paid to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in this meeting. It is noteworthy that Dr. Manmohan Singh was known for his calm and simple nature, due to which even his political opponents respected him. He served as the head of the Indian Planning Commission from 1985 to 1987 during the tenure of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Along with this, he was also the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) from 1982 to 1985, where he made many important reforms in the banking sector, which are still remembered today.

Important role in economic reforms

Dr. Manmohan Singh's contribution in the field of economic reforms was extremely important. As Finance Minister in the PV Narasimha Rao government in 1991, he took many decisions related to liberalisation, privatization and globalization, which gave a new direction to the country's economy. Along with this, he received many major honors, including Padma Vibhushan in 1987, Asia Money Award in 1993, Jawaharlal Nehru Birth Centenary Award in 1995, among many others. He also received honorary degrees from the universities of Cambridge and Oxford.
