The alleged mastermind behind the gherao of judicial officers in Bengal arrested at Bagdogra Airport

Three cases were registered against the accused for provoking local people at three different places.

Kolkata. West Bengal Police arrested two people, including the key conspirator of the siege of seven judicial officers in Malda district, from Siliguri’s Bagdogra airport. The main conspirator has been identified as advocate Mofakkarul Islam. He was arrested when he was trying to board a plane.

Police said that he is the main conspirator of the Kaliachak incident, in which seven judicial officers were surrounded for several hours inside the BDO office on Wednesday night. He was planning to escape by boarding a plane.

Additional Director General of Police North Bengal. Jayaraman told that Mofakkarul Islam is a resident of Itahar in North Dinajpur district and is currently living in Kolkata.

Three cases were registered against him at Kaliachak police station for instigating local people through speeches on Wednesday, he said. After this inflammatory speech, seven judicial officers were gheraoed inside the Kaliachak-2 block office under Mothabari assembly constituency.

He said that after the incident, we chased Mofakkarul Islam and arrested him and his associate from Bagdogra airport with the help of West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Siliguri Police.

Three cases have been registered against him for provoking the local people at three different places. He said that a total of 19 cases have been registered in connection with the Kaliachak incident.

The police officer said that despite the National Investigation Agency (NIA) taking over the investigation, West Bengal Police will continue its investigation to find out whether the incident was pre-planned and whether more people were involved. He said that with this arrest, the police have so far arrested 35 people, including an Indian Secular Front (ISF) candidate, for their involvement in the incident.
