The arbitrariness of airlines will be curbed, PM Modi gave strict instructions

The increasing arbitrariness and inconvenience to the passengers on the country’s largest airline IndiGo has seriously worried the Central Government. The manner in which the recent irregularities in IndiGo’s operations have left passengers in distress and despite this the civil aviation regulatory body DGCA also appeared weak in taking decisive action, has shocked as well as troubled the government.

According to government sources, now preparations are underway to take strict action against IndiGo and emphasis is being laid on implementing permanent monitoring system for the airlines sector on a large scale. This will include strict action on issues like arbitrary, sudden increase in air fares and operational irregularities.

Prime Minister gave strict instructions

According to the information, Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself has instructed the Civil Aviation Ministry to deal strictly with this matter and ensure the protection of the rights of passengers. Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, while submitting a detailed report to the PM, explained how IndiGo’s irregularities affected passengers on a large scale.

The Prime Minister has clearly said that no airline will be allowed to compromise with the safety and convenience of passengers. According to sources, major decisions can be taken after the report of the four-member investigating committee comes. This could include steps like heavy fine on IndiGo, reducing flights on some routes or withdrawing route allocation if needed. There may even be a recommendation to remove the CEO of Indigo.

Government’s message: India will not bow under pressure

The government has a clear message that no private company can influence the rules by putting pressure on the country. However, the government’s priority at present is to normalize all IndiGo flights in the next two-three days, while the airline is still asking for at least a week’s time.

Strict monitoring of rent and operations

Sources say that due to international circumstances, the government cannot decide the fares directly, but new guidelines can definitely be made to stop taking unfair advantage by the airlines. Even during the Covid period, the government had fixed the fare limit and this time also such steps can be taken if necessary.

New system will be ready for fog

The government has directed DGCA to strengthen its monitoring system and report regularly at higher levels. Apart from this, DGCA has also been asked to prepare a special protocol in view of the possibility of flights being affected on a large scale due to fog in winter.
