Best Discoveries of 2024 So Far

Earlywood Large Wood Soup Ladle Spoon

Amazon

I love this brand’s incredible handmade and sustainably derived wooden tools and have purchased many items on my own over the years. The brand had sent me this ladle to try out, and I am completely in love with it. While this ladle might seem simple, it’s far from it. It has such a genius design. For one, it is designed to lie flat, so I can rest it on my countertop while I am cooking soups, sauces, and more—or rest it right on my Dutch oven right on the handles. The deep cavity holds generous ladlefuls, so I don’t have to return to the pot for more. The handle is very sturdy and easy to hold, too. It’s essential for fall and winter, making it an excellent gift.

GreenPan x Bobby Flay Cast Iron Pre-Seasoned 11-Inch Square Grill Pan

Amazon

I recently raved about this grill pan from Bobby Flay’s cookware collection with GreenPan, and even though I haven’t had it for more than a month, I have to include it. I’ve been using it quite often, and I’m so impressed with how easy it is to use. Everything sears so easily. I use it most for vegetables to get a nice sear for weeknight dinners. They’re also great for building char on ingredients for salads, and I love searing off proteins like salmon or tofu in them. The shape is perfect, and the angled handles keep it compact on the stove. It’s just $35, too, so I love that it’s not too expensive and will last me for years with proper care.

Emile Henry 13 by 9-Inch Large Rectangular Baker

Amazon

I bought this Emile Henry baking dish after using its pie dish for a long time, and I love the way it bakes my pies. For me, stoneware is one of my favorite materials that can be used for a wide range of tasks, whether desserts or casseroles. This dish is no exception, checking off all of my boxes. It has a deep 13-by-9-inch interior, so I can fit different dishes in it without worrying about overflow. The material retains heat well and bakes everything evenly. It’s also just pretty, and I love its natural, almost handmade look, so I am proud to display it on my table or bring it to a family member’s or a friend’s house. The stoneware is very durable, too, so you can take it from the freezer right into the oven or pop it under the broiler, in the microwave or the dishwasher.

Evo Original Oil Sprayer

Amazon

This oil sprayer has been so helpful for getting even amounts of oil on ingredients for the grill or the oven. We love to use it weekly, mainly for grilled salmon, big batches of roasted vegetables, roasted tofu and more. Its nozzle gives a nice wide, even mist, making prep work much faster. It comes with a funnel for clean refills, and its narrow shape ensures it doesn’t take up a ton of space on my counter, but it still holds plenty of oil at a time. It’s been an enormous help!

Le Creuset Enameled Cast Iron Signature Loaf Pan

Amazon

If you know me, you know that Le Creuset is one of my favorite kitchenware brands. When the brand released it in February, I jumped to test this loaf pan. I am very picky with my loaf pans, mainly because the standard ones don’t produce the shape and size I like. That’s one of the reasons why this Le Creuset option has become one of my favorites. It’s nice and big, with a 5-by-9-inch interior. The walls are 3 inches deep, so it’s tall enough to produce hearty slices of my baked goods. I absolutely love the cast iron material because it browns ingredients nicely, but it never browns them too much. My other favorite design perk? The walls are not tapered, so you get straight, evenly baked loaves. And it looks gorgeous, so what’s not to love?

OXO Good Grips V-Blade Mandoline Slicer

Amazon

I bought this mandoline from OXO in late December 2023, but I am counting it as a 2024 discovery because I’ve used it most this past year. I needed a bigger mandoline for easier slicing up eggplant (for the best eggplant parm) and other hearty produce, and I have been loving this version because it can power through almost any ingredient. I recommend it most for beginners because it has an easy-to-use design, two back legs to keep it lifted and in place and a safety holder to protect your hands as you glide ingredients. The v-blade shape is also unique and really helps to ensure you’re getting clean cuts. There’s also a dial to adjust the thickness of the slice, and it comes with a shredding blade that makes light work of grating carrots and more.

Zibra Open-It! All-In-One Multi-Tool

Amazon

This is more of a rediscovery, as my mom bought me my own to have on hand. My family’s been using this do-it-all tool for as long as I can remember. It’s not a distinct kitchen tool, but I’ve always kept it there. One side of the tool has thick angled blades that can cut through tough packaging, woody flower stems and some produce, too. It’s especially great if you like to grow fruits and vegetables since they can cut through tougher cuts like thick tomato stems, asparagus, leaf tops and more. The other side of the tool has nifty additions, including a retractable razor blade and a removable screwdriver. It also neatly locks into place to take up minimal space in my drawer. For $18, it’s a smart essential.

JoyJolt JoyFul 24-Piece Glass Food Storage Container Set

Amazon

I finally caved and bought these containers this October Prime Day, and I’ve already started using them daily. I love the set’s versatility because it has four round, four rectangular, and four square containers. This makes it so easy to find the right container for whatever I am using it for, whether I’m packing lunch, storing leftovers or keeping pantry goods sealed tight. They’re glass, versatile and the locking-tab lids keep everything leak-proof. The biggest plus? They’re microwave- and dishwasher-safe.

Gozney Arc Pizza Oven

Amazon

I’m saving the most splurge-worthy for last. Gozney launched this incredible pizza oven earlier this year. It’s so easy to use, compact enough to fit on my deck and most importantly, it churns out excellent pizza. You can make up to 14 inches, which is perfect for me since we prefer to whip up personal pies anyway. It takes just minutes to whip up New York-style pizza, and less if you get the oven hotter (it can reach up to 900℉). It’s a great buy if you want something beginner-friendly, space-saving and chic.
