Congress has fielded 23 candidates in the Assam Assembly elections, see whose names are in the list?

New Delhi. A day before the announcement of Assam Assembly Elections dates, the Central Election Committee of Congress has released the list of 23 candidates for the upcoming Assam Assembly Elections. This information was given by the party’s National General Secretary KC Venugopal.

Its date will probably be revealed today i.e. by Sunday evening. Even before this, political parties have made their preparations for the election battle. Congress Party has released the second list of its candidates on Saturday. The names of 23 candidates are included in this new list. Earlier, the party had announced the names of 42 candidates in its first list. Thus, Congress has so far won its cards on a total of 65 seats for the 126-member Assam Assembly.

This time Congress is leading the opposition alliance in the state. The party high command has clarified that as per the election strategy, 15 seats have been reserved for its allies. This alliance mainly includes the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) and CPI (ML) Liberation. However, this time ‘Raizor Dal’ is not a part of the alliance, which is being considered a significant change in the political circles.

Emphasis on regional equations

In the 23 names included in the second list, special attention has been paid to regional equations and social balance. According to party sources, priority has been given to ground feedback and winnability in the selection of candidates. The Congress aims to return to power in the state, which has been held by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government for the last two terms.

Election campaign will gain momentum

With the announcement of the candidates, Congress is now preparing to sharpen its election campaign in the state. Tours and rallies of senior party leaders are proposed across the state in the coming days. After the names of the candidates have been decided, the mobilization of workers has started at the grassroots level in the assembly constituencies.

Political scenario of Assam

The main contest in the Assam Assembly elections 2026 is being seen between the ruling BJP alliance and the Congress-led Mahajot. While BJP is in the fray with claims of development and ‘double engine’ government, Congress is trying to corner the government on unemployment, inflation and local issues. The names of the candidates on the remaining seats are also likely to be announced soon.
