The CEO of Larsen & Toubro Company, who advised to work for 90 hours, got a shock from the government.
Larsen and Toubro- The Defense Ministry has given a big blow to Larsen & Toubro (L&T), a major company in the engineering sector. The government had issued a tender worth Rs 70,000 crore to buy six submarines, in which L&T had also bid. However, the Defense Ministry says that the company has not followed the conditions.
The Indian Navy had planned to procure six such submarines under Project 75 India, which have the capability to stay under water for three weeks. According to defense sources, L&T had made a proposal with Spanish company Navantia but it was not in line with the Navy's requirements, due to which it was rejected. L&T has been a major company involved in this project.
L&T and its partner had demonstrated the functionality of its critical Air Independent Propulsion System to the Navy team in Spain but the Navy demanded a system as per its requirements in the tender document. After the rejection of L&T's bid, now only the government company Mazagon Dockyard is left in the race to get this contract.
It has bid together with German company ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems. Amid the rapid modernization of the Chinese Navy, India has also approved several submarine projects, both nuclear and conventional.
90 hours workL&D recently came into limelight due to a statement by its Chairman and MD SN Subramaniam. There was a video of him on Reddit in which he was advising employees to work 90 hours a week. He said that if he had his way, he would have called the employees to the office even on Sundays and got them to work. In the video, he is telling the employees, 'What do you do sitting at home? How long can you stare at your wife? Come on, go to the office and start working. For this reason he was trolled heavily on social media.
