CMO office and Water Department take samples of one colony every day for eight months of the year, yet residents of the capital are forced to drink dirty water, when will the report from the lab be unveiled?

Lucknow. In recent times, people in many cities of the country have been suffering from diseases like cholera, diarrhea, typhoid, vomiting and diarrhea due to drinking contaminated water, which has caused many serious health problems and in some cases even deaths. Now we are going to tell about Lucknow, the capital of the country’s largest state. Contrary to all the claims of development of the Yogi government, this problem of contaminated water is becoming acute in the capital Lucknow, but the responsible department (Water and Health Department) just makes excuses in the name of checking the quality of water. Let us tell you that the responsibility of checking the quality of water is mainly in the hands of the Water and Health Department. Their joint team checks the quality of water in a colony every day from March to October every year. After the investigation report comes, the responsibility of solving the problem lies with the Water Department, but both the departments keep the investigation report gathering dust. Today, no common man in the capital knows what is the quality of water supplied to his house?

Report of contaminated water is collected daily

According to government rules, for eight months of the year, a team from the CMO office along with representatives of the Water Department goes out every day to test the water. In this any one colony is selected. Water samples are taken from the colony and sent to the lab in Aliganj for testing. The next day this report is sent directly from the lab to the CMO office. It is the responsibility of sending a copy of the report from the CMO office to the Jalkal GM and the Municipal Health Officer (NSA). If there is a report of contaminated water from somewhere, then the water department is responsible for its disposal within 24 hours, but for the past few years this report is not coming out of the CMO office and the water department. This report is not brought on the public platform, due to which people are not able to get information about the quality of water.

Vector Borne Disease Control Incharge and ACMO Dr. Vishant Nirman says that the Health Department team will start regular testing of water from February 1. Generally the season of infectious diseases is considered to be from March. Therefore, our team tests the water every year from March 15 to October. These days, there are more complaints about contaminated water in the city. In such a situation, from February 1, the Water Department team will check the quality of water along with the Health Department. The team consists of a lab technician and an associate from the health department.

The public does not know the cause and solution of contaminated water.

The problem of contaminated water is becoming increasingly serious. In many areas including the capital’s major colony Indira Nagar, Khadra, Rajajipuram, Alambagh, Udayganj of Sadar, people have been forced to drink dirty and smelly water for months. People say that the Water Department team arrives on complaint but people are not being told what are the reasons for contaminated water in their area and at what level action is being taken for improvement?

Old pipeline is the main reason for contaminated water: Jalkal GM Kuldeep Singh

Jalkal GM Kuldeep Singh said that in the areas where there are complaints of contaminated water, the main reason for this is leakage in old pipe lines and laying of sewer lines. GM said that Jalkal’s team conducts Orthotolidine (OT) test on the spot to determine the level of chlorine in water. However, sometimes due to leakage, the quality of chlorine gets affected due to sewer dirt getting mixed in the water, which is not easily detected in OT test. In such a situation, water samples are collected and sent to the lab of the State Health Institute located in Aliganj. First the sapling is chemically tested. If chloride, nitrate, fluoride are found suspicious in this, then bacterial (viral) test is done. Whereas on the contrary, people allege that Jalkal does not make these investigation reports public. Due to this, they are not able to know what is lacking in their water and what level of water they have used till now? After the report, what measures did the Water Department take to improve the water quality in the concerned area? This is also not being told to the people.

Same is the situation in the surrounding areas including Clay Swawire Havelock Road in Udayganj. People have been struggling with the problem of contaminated water for months in the areas around Ramlila Maidan in Khadra. However, officials of the Water Department are claiming that laying of new pipeline has been started in Khadra. The problem here will be resolved in one to one and a half months. Earlier, people were complaining about the spread of diseases due to contaminated water in many areas of Jankipuram extension. People are complaining every day about the supply of sewerage water in Azad Nagar of Alambagh.

Claim of testing 122 samples

Water Department officials claim that OT testing of water is being conducted regularly in various areas of the city. Between January 1 and January 15, 2,380 OT tests were conducted. The investigation report found the correct amount of chlorine in the water. 122 samples were sent to the State Health Institute for bacterial and chemical testing. In all the reports the water is being declared potable. JE Dhaniram Chaudhary of Indira Nagar said that there will be water problem in some areas till the work of laying the sewer line is completed.
