Controversy increases in West Bengal regarding Messi episode, now Sports Minister Arup Biswas resigns, investigation team formed
New Delhi. Political activity has increased in West Bengal regarding the Messi episode. State Sports Minister Arup Biswas has resigned from the post of Sports Minister. Bengal Sports Minister Arup Biswas has resigned by writing a letter to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for a fair investigation. Trinamool spokesperson Kunal Ghosh claims that his resignation has been accepted. Amid the ongoing controversy regarding the Yuva Bharti scandal, Arup Biswas was asked to leave the sports department.

DC suspended
In the Messi incident, the Chief Secretary has issued a show cause notice to the state Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Kumar and Vidhannagar Police Commissioner (CP) Mukesh Kumar. Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) of Bidhannagar has been suspended.
Answer sought within 24 hours
Show-cause notices have been issued to DGP Rajeev Kumar and CP, Bidhannagar Mukesh Kumar, asking them to explain within 24 hours why there was mismanagement and lapses at the stadium that day and why proper coordination was not done with stakeholders, including private organisers, to ensure the smooth conduct of the event.

Departmental proceedings have been initiated against DCP Anish Sarkar for alleged negligence in his duties and responsibilities on the day of the event. He has been suspended with immediate effect until the investigation is completed. Along with this, clarification has also been sought from Rajesh Kumar Sinha, Principal Secretary, Youth Affairs and Sports Department, on the mismanagement and lapses on the day of the event.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to thoroughly investigate the matter. This team includes IPS Piyush Pandey, IPS Javed Shamim, IPS Muralidhar and IPS Supratim Sarkar. It is clear from the administrative action that the state government is taking this incident very seriously and is fixing accountability on top officials to avoid such lapses in future.
