The debut of Squash in 2028 Olympics is a historic moment, Saurav Ghoshal said – New heights will come with better coaching and ecosystem.

New Delhi: Former India number one player Saurav Ghoshal described the inclusion of squash in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics as a historic moment and said that there is a need for better coaching and strengthening of the ‘ecosystem’ for the development of the sport.

Ghoshal, who was recently appointed Sports Commissioner of the World Premier Squash, said, “I have been fortunate to have played professional squash for India for more than 20 years. This is a time to bring all that experience together and I am happy to be able to contribute at the global level.” He said, ”I have always looked at situations of pressure as opportunities. This is an opportunity to do something special for the game.

Talking about India’s rising graph in squash, Ghoshal said, “The strength is seen in the numbers. If more and more players play, champions will emerge. The future is also looking bright.

He said, “There are many players who do not have financial support or proper guidance. This will give them a chance to showcase their talent at the global level. Four of our boys are in the top 50 and Anahat Singh is in the top 20. Success inspires success and this improves the entire ecosystem.”

Talking about its Olympic debut at the Los Angeles Olympics 2028, he said, “This will be a historic moment, not just for India but for world squash. Olympics is the biggest platform and also the test of excellence in sports.

He said, “It is a great thing that players will get a chance to showcase their talent at the top level. I hope it will be very interesting. It is expected that Indian players will get a place in the draw of 16 players.
