Change of leadership in Maharashtra politics

Mumbai. An important change has emerged in the politics of Maharashtra. A new political chapter has started with the change of leadership in the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Prominent party leader and state Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar has been unanimously appointed as the national president of NCP. This decision was taken in the party meeting, which is considered very important in the politics of the state. After the death of Ajit Pawar in the recent plane crash, there has been a major change in the responsibilities of the party.

Political crisis after the death of Ajit Pawar

After the death of Ajit Pawar, Maharashtra politics has reached a new turning point. The responsibility of the post of Deputy Chief Minister has now been handed over to Sunetra Pawar and she has also received the national command of the party. There were discussions going on for some time about the possible merger of the two factions of NCP, but senior leaders of Ajit Pawar faction did not show any special interest in this matter. After this situation, the party has elected a new leadership to strengthen the organization, in which it was decided to make Sunetra Pawar the national president.

Unanimous decision in national conference

The national convention of NCP was held in Worli area of Mumbai in 2026. All senior leaders and officials of the party were present in this session. During the convention, a proposal was made to make Sunetra Pawar the national president, which was unanimously accepted by all the leaders. Party leader Praful Patel formally announced his name. It was also decided that Praful Patel will remain the working president of the party, while MP Sunil Tatkare will take over the role of Maharashtra state president.

Sunetra Pawar likely to contest assembly elections from Baramati

Discussion has also intensified in political circles that Sunetra Pawar can possibly contest the by-election from Baramati assembly seat. This seat has been the political identity of Ajit Pawar. If by-election is held, MP Supriya Sule has expressed hope that this election can be unopposed. In such a situation, there is a possibility that Sunetra Pawar can play a stronger role in the politics of the state after reaching the Assembly.
