PM Modi Touched Makhanlal Sarkar’s Feet on the Stage : A unique scene was seen during the swearing-in ceremony of the new CM in West Bengal, when PM Narendra Modi touched the feet of an elderly person present on the stage and took blessings. Actually, the worker whose feet was touched by PM Modi is associated with the movement led by Shyama Prasad Mukherjee.

According to the information, during the swearing-in program in Kolkata, PM Modi honored Makhanlal Sarkar, one of the most senior BJP workers of West Bengal, and took his blessings. Makhanlal Sarkar was arrested in 1953 for being with Syama Prasad Mukherjee during the movement to hoist the Indian tricolor in Kashmir. Even at the age of 98, Makhanlal Sarkar remains one of the early grassroots leaders associated with the nationalist movement in post-independence India.

Makhanlal Sarkar is a senior BJP leader from Siliguri. Sarkar was an associate of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee and was also a part of his last journey. After the formation of BJP in 1980, Sarkar became the organizational coordinator of West Dinajpur, Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling districts. The credit for getting nearly 10,000 members to join BJP in just one year also goes to him.

Makhanlal Sarkar has held the post of BJP District President for seven consecutive years since 1981. When generally BJP leaders could not hold the same organizational post for more than two years.
