New Delhi. The four-day ritual of Chaiti Chhath will begin with Nahay-Khay on Chaitra Shukla Chaturthi Tithi Sunday. On Sunday, the devotees observing Chhath festival will take bath, bring Ganga water to their homes and worship after taking Arwa rice, rock salt, gram dal, bottle gourd vegetable, Amla chutney etc. and take a pledge for the four-day ritual. On Monday, she will remain fasting and perform Kharna Puja in the evening. Will accept prasad of kheer made from jaggery and with this the 36 hours waterless fast will begin.

Those fasting for Chhath festival will offer Arghya to the setting sun on Tuesday, March 24 and will conclude the four-day festival by offering Arghya to the rising sun on Wednesday, March 25. According to belief, consuming Kharna Prasad keeps the body healthy and increases intellectual capacity. The first day of Chhath Mahaparva starting from Sunday will start with Nahaya Khay. Monday will be the second day, which is known as Kharna. Kharna will be celebrated on Monday, 23 March 2026. On this day, devotees observe fast without water for the whole day and after worshiping Sun God in the evening, consume kheer, roti and fruits prepared from jaggery. After receiving the Prasad of Kharna, the 36-hour waterless fast of the devotees begins. The great festival of Chaiti Chhath Puja 2026 will start from Sunday 22nd March this year with Nahay-Khay. On this day, women take bath in the river and consume satvik food, which gives them mental and physical strength for the upcoming fast. Kharna will be celebrated the next day on Monday, 23 March. On Tuesday, March 24, fasting women go to the ghat and offer Arghya to the setting sun and worship Chhath Maiya. After this, Sunrise Arghya will be offered on the morning of Wednesday, March 25, when women offer Arghya to the rising sun and wish for the happiness, prosperity of their family and long life of their children. On this day, a difficult fast lasting 36 hours is concluded.
