The great grandfather of journalism, HK. Dua passes away. He was media advisor to two Prime Ministers and was honored with Padma Bhushan.
News India Live, Digital Desk : H.K. Dua’s last rites will be performed on March 5, 2026 at 12 noon at Lodhi Road cremation ground in Delhi. He is survived by his wife Aditi Dua and son Prashant.1. Editorial Excellence Dua Saheb had the rare distinction of editing four big and prestigious newspapers of the country: The Hindustan Times (1987-94): Served as Editor. The Indian Express (1994-96): Editor-in-Chief. The Tribune (2003-09): As Editor-in-Chief, took the national credibility of this newspaper to new heights. The Times of India (1997–98): Contributed as editorial consultant.2. Trusted advisor to Prime Ministers (Media Advisor to PMs) He was not only an excellent journalist, but also had deep penetration and respect in the corridors of power: Atal Bihari Vajpayee and H.D. Deve Gowda: He was the media advisor to both these former Prime Ministers during their tenure. He acted as a bridge between the government and the media.3. Role in Diplomacy & Politics: Ambassador to Denmark: Between 2001 and 2003, he served as India’s Ambassador to Denmark. Rajya Sabha Member (2009-15): He was nominated by the President to the Rajya Sabha, where he expressed his strong views on issues such as foreign affairs, national security and freedom of the press. 4. Honors and Achievements (Awards & Recognition) Padma Bhushan: He was awarded the country’s third highest civilian honor Padma Bhushan in 2008 for his invaluable contribution to journalism and public service. Honorary degrees: Punjab University and Kurukshetra University awarded him the degree of D.Litt (Honorary).5. Strong advocate of ‘editorial freedom’ H.K. Dua was known for her unwavering commitment to impartiality and editorial independence. Congress MP Manish Tewari remembered him, saying, “He was an editor in the era when being an editor really mattered.” He never compromised with his principles and values.
