The havoc of pollution! Shocking report of RBI – The age of people of this state decreased more than Delhi, know what is the figure
There has definitely been some decline in pollution in Delhi-NCR today i.e. on 16th December as compared to the last few days. But still AQI remains in the serious category here. Due to pollution, even breathing here is proving costly. This is having a bad effect on health. In such a situation, a report of RBI has also come out, which is really shocking. In some states the lifespan of people has reduced due to pollution. Whereas, the age of people has increased in states with better health facilities.
According to the RBI report, air pollution, contaminated water and deteriorating lifestyle are affecting the average age of people in many big states of the country. According to the Statistics Handbook 2024-25 of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the highest decline in average age has been recorded in Delhi and Punjab in the last four years.
- The average age in Delhi decreased by 1.7 years during 2019-23.
- Average age declined by 2 years in Punjab
- The average age in Haryana has decreased by 1.1 years
- In terms of decline in average age, Punjab is at first place and Delhi is at second place.
Kerala leads, Chhattisgarh lags behind
While age is declining in some states, the average age at the national level has increased by 0.6 years to 70.3 years. RBI report shows that better health facilities and improvement in lifestyle have shown positive changes in many states. The age has increased in some states including UP, Uttarakhand and Bihar.
The average age in Uttar Pradesh has increased from 65.6 to 68.0 years. That means an increase of 2.4 years. In Uttarakhand, the average age has increased from 70.6 to 71.3 years. Whereas in Bihar, the average age has increased marginally to 69.3 years. Not only this, Kerala has the highest average age in the country at 75.1 years. Whereas, the least increase was seen in Chhattisgarh. The average age here is 64.6 years.
If we look at this entire report, the average age in Delhi is still higher than that of Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, but the continuous decline in the last 5-6 years is considered a big sign of concern.
