What happened in the real-life incident?

On September 23, 2009, A Bell 206 helicopter was stolen from Roslagens helicopter base in Norrtälje at 5:15 am. It landed on the G4S cash service building in southern Stockholm. Masked robbers, clad in all-black, smashed the glass room with sledgehammers and entered the building with ladders. They placed explosives across the facility, leaving security personnel to hide fearing that the building would collapse and hence, gave full access to the building to robbers. They used buzzsaws to break locks on cash cages and filled their bags with millions of dollars, approximately $150 million. The entire heist was completed in a mere 20 minutes.

Police arrived at the scene while robbers were still in action but were not able to enter the building neither police helicopters were of any help as submachine guns and bombs were placed to keep them away.

Later, the helicopter was found in a forest in the north of Stockholm. CCTV footage gave police a headway into the case. The main accused was Goran Bojovic, who previously worked for Serbia’s secret police and eventually other accused were also arrested. In total, 10 accused were arrested. It is said that a large chunk of stolen cash is yet to be found.
