There will be competition for electric, petrol and diesel vehicles in the Indian automobile sector in 2026.
New Delhi : The Indian automobile industry is preparing for major vehicle launches in 2026, reflecting competitive shifts in both the electric and internal combustion engine (ICE) segments. Major automakers such as Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Kia, Renault and Mahindra plan to introduce new cars and significant updates to their existing models this year to attract consumer interest.

Kia India’s new Seltos
In the mid-SUV category, Kia India has already launched its second generation all-new Kia Seltos with prices starting at Rs 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom). According to a Kia press release, the new model is larger than its predecessor, with a length of 4,460 mm and a wheelbase of 2,690 mm, which increases cabin space. Gwangju Lee, Managing Director and CEO, Kia India, said, “We aim to redefine the standards in the mid-SUV segment with this new generation by enhancing space, safety, technology and overall ownership experience.
Hyundai introduces new version of Venue
Hyundai Motor India Limited has also expanded its lineup with the launch of the HX5+ variant of the Hyundai Venue, which is priced at INR 9,99,900 (ex-showroom). This variant comes with a 1.2L petrol engine and quad-beam LED headlights along with a wireless smartphone charger. Tarun Garg, MD and CEO, Hyundai India, said that the new Hyundai Venue has received an unprecedented response from customers, with over 50,000 bookings already received.”

Maruti Suzuki’s first electric car: e-Vitara
Maruti Suzuki is likely to launch its first electric car, the e-Vitara, this month. This SUV will come with a minimalist design and will include 360 degree camera, Level 2 ADAS and ventilated front seats. There will be options for 48.8 kWh and 61.1 kWh battery packs, and a claimed range of up to 500 km on a single charge.
Tata Motors’ Sierra EV
Tata Motors’ Sierra EV is also likely to be launched early this year. This new Sierra EV is built on the Acti.ev+ platform and is expected to have a range of 500 km and an all-wheel-drive option, reviving an iconic brand name in the electric space.
Mahindra’s XUV 7XO and Renault Duster
Mahindra has announced the launch date of its XUV 7XO as 5 January 2026. It is a facelifted XUV700, sharing design and features with the XEV 9S, while it will retain the XUV700 with its internal combustion engine. At the same time, Renault’s new generation Duster can be launched on January 26 with 1.3 liter turbocharged petrol engine and ADAS technology.
Notable launches and future updates
These launches are likely to further increase competition for electric and internal combustion engine vehicles in the Indian Automobile Industry in 2026. All major vehicle manufacturers will try to attract customers with their new technology and updated models by the end of this year.
