‘The Kerala Story 2’ controversial amid censor certificate, producers wish not to show it in court

New Delhi. A new controversy has arisen in the Kerala High Court regarding the upcoming film The Kerala Story 2. Due to the story and title of the film, many people have called it controversial and have filed petitions to ban its release. During the hearing on Tuesday, the High Court expressed concern over the attitude of the makers of the film, as the producers were not willing to show the film to the court. Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas said that the court should not watch the film but wants the case to only decide whether the petition is a private or public suit.

According to Bar & Bench report, the court expressed its desire to watch the film as the petitioners’ concern is that the film is inspired by a true incident and the name of the state figures prominently in the title. However, the film’s sequel and story have no real connection to Kerala.

A total of three petitions have been filed regarding the film in which the makers have also been demanded to cancel the CBFC certificate. Senior counsel S Sreekumar, appearing for the producers, told the court that first it should be decided whether this petition is public or private. Justice Thomas also made it clear that the makers are not interested in showing the film to the court.

The director of ‘The Kerala Story 2’ is Kamakhya Narayan Singh and the film stars Ulk Gupta, Aditi Bhatia and Aishwarya Ojha in lead roles. The release date of the film is fixed – 27th February. As soon as the poster was released, the film came into controversy and some people are even demanding to ban it.

CBFC has given UA 16+ certificate to the film but 16 cuts and some modifications were made for it. Instructions were given to reduce some kissing and rape scenes in the film. Now the question is what decision does the court take next and whether there is any ban on the release of the film or not.

  • This controversy has made the film a topic of discussion among the audience even before its release, but the film is going to hit the theaters on February 27.
