Tezzbuzz Desk – Amidst the release of ‘The Kerala Story 2’, its first part director Sudipto Sen has raised serious questions on the functioning of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). These days he is working on his next film ‘Charak’ He is in the news and during its trailer launch event, he openly targeted the censor board.
“Censor board adopts double standards”
Sudipto Sen says that the Censor Board adopts double standards in evaluating films. He alleged that big commercial films full of violence are easily passed, but when a film is based on social or real events, difficulties are created by giving it the tag of ‘propaganda’.
Giving an example, he said that films with stylish violence are accepted by the audience, but when cinema shows uncomfortable truth, it is objected to.
Law is old, reform incomplete
Sudipto said that the Cinematograph Act is of 1952 and its rules are outdated as per today’s times. He also reminded that the recommendations of the Shyam Benegal Committee were accepted a few years ago, but they were not fully implemented.
He appealed that filmmakers should speak openly on issues related to censorship, because in such circumstances creative people have to face a lot of mental pressure.
