The last attempt also failed! Congress does not form alliance with Akhil Gogoi, will there be loss?
The Election Commission can announce the election dates for Assam Assembly elections anytime later this month. Before the election dates are announced in the state, all the political parties of Assam have either cleared the situation regarding seat sharing or are holding meetings to take a decision on it. Meanwhile, Congress’s alliance with ‘Raizor Dal’, which has been struggling for power in Assam for the last 10 years, has broken. Raijor Dal President Akhil Gogoi himself has given this information.
Raijor Dal Chief Akhil Gogoi wrote a post on social media on March 6. In this he wrote, ‘The last attempt also failed.’ This development has fueled speculation in political circles about seat sharing regarding a possible alliance with the Congress before the upcoming assembly elections in Assam. Now the alliance partners have become doubtful about getting respectable seats because the alliance of Rajyoro Dal and Congress has broken due to seat sharing.
Effort to form opposition front
Akhil Gogoi has announced the break of the alliance at a time when Congress and many opposition parties have announced that they will start mass election campaign meetings together in every corner of the state. Assam Pradesh Congress Committee President Gaurav Gogoi said in a press conference that the party is currently working with the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Assam Jatiya Parishad and All Party Hill Leaders Conference to form a big opposition front.

On the other hand, the ruling BJP is working on seat distribution by including small parties in its alliance.
Efforts to enlarge the alliance
Gogoi had earlier said that Congress is also in talks with other parties including Akhil Gogoi’s Raijor Dal. Also expressed hope that this alliance will become bigger in the coming days. Gogoi said, ‘From now on, we will hold joint campaign meetings across Assam. Discussions have already taken place on some possible sites in Upper Assam. We will also discuss other parts of the state. He said, ‘Now the time has come that we together convey our views to the public. Therefore, we will start a joint campaign from now on.
Amidst these statements, the Congress-led opposition alliance has not yet finalized its position regarding seat-sharing. Congress has already announced that the party will contest elections alone on 100 seats out of 126 Assam Assembly seats. Whereas 26 seats will be left for alliance parties. In this series, Congress has already announced candidates for 42 seats.

Meanwhile, AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi, who is part of the Congress alliance, has said that all the parties in the alliance have joined hands to give the message that they are united in their efforts to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party. CPI(M) state secretary Suprakash Talukdar described the alliance as a good start. Also talked about making it stronger.
What was Rajyor Dal’s demand from Congress?
Social worker-turned-politician MLA Akhil Gogoi’s party Raijor Dal wanted an alliance with Congress for the assembly elections. There was no agreement between the leaders of both the parties regarding seat sharing for a long time. In this regard, Akhil Gogoi had talked to Congress in-charge for Assam Bhanwar Jitendra Singh and state president Gaurav Gogoi, but from the beginning there was tension between the two parties regarding seat-sharing.

Let us tell you that Akhil Gogoi had demanded at least 12-15 assembly seats from Congress. In this, he was especially demanding the seats of his choice and winning seats. But, Congress had offered him 4 seats, which Akhil Gogoi did not accept. Due to this condemnation, the talk of Rajyoga Dal’s alliance with Congress could not be made. Now Akhil Gogoi has said that he will contest alone in the assembly elections.
How much power does Akhil Gogoi have in Assam?
Akhil Gogoi’s party Rajyor Dal contested the 2021 Assam Assembly elections for the first time. In this election, Raijor Dal had fielded candidates on a total of 29 seats. The party got only one seat, which was won by Akhil Gogoi himself. He reached the assembly by winning from Sivasagar assembly constituency.
When Akhil Gogoi won the elections, he was in jail in cases related to the anti-CAA movement. Apart from this, the overall performance of Rajyor Dal was limited. Gogoi’s party was mainly in the news among the opposition parties as a vote-getter. In some assembly seats, his party’s votes were more than BJP’s victory margin, due to which Congress is considered to have suffered a loss.
