The luck of farmers of UP has brightened! Historic decision of Yogi government

A very big and very relieving news has come to the maize producing farmers of Uttar Pradesh. The government has taken a major decision in the important cabinet meeting held on June 3, 2026 under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The UP government has given green signal to the new policy of purchasing 25 thousand metric tons of maize on a large scale for the first time in the state. The biggest advantage of this scheme will be that maize will be purchased directly from the farmers at the fixed support price, so that they can get the right and fair price for their hard-earned produce. Under this master plan, 150 special purchasing centers will be created in 25 selected districts of Uttar Pradesh, where maize will be purchased from farmers from June 15 to July 31.

After all, why is this decision a boon for maize farmers?

If we look at the ground reality, farmers growing maize in Uttar Pradesh were often forced to sell their finished crop in the market at very low and throwaway prices. Due to there being no solid system of government procurement or it being very limited, simple farmers were always forced to fall into the clutches of local traders and greedy middlemen. Many times, the price of maize in the open market went much below the MSP fixed by the government, due to which poor farmers had to suffer huge financial losses.

Apart from this, serious problems like not getting timely payment after selling crops, absence of procurement centers nearby and lack of transparency in the entire system always stood as a wall in front of the farmers. Especially small and marginal farmers were seen struggling every year in offices and markets to get the right price for their produce. But now the Uttar Pradesh government has taken this big step as part of its resolve to promote millets and double the income of farmers, which is expected to provide relief to the farmers from this quagmire forever.

Minimum support price of maize in UP and government’s target

To keep this scheme transparent and in favor of farmers, the Yogi government has fixed the minimum support price (MSP) of maize at Rs 2400 per quintal. Under this entire coarse grain procurement policy, the government will ensure government procurement of 25 thousand metric tons of maize in a phased manner, the money for which will be sent directly to the bank accounts of the farmers. With this masterstroke of the government, not only will the middlemen be completely wiped out, but the economy of rural areas of UP will also get a new and strong momentum.
