Goa fire incident, remand of Luthra brothers extended till December 26, 25 people died in fire in night club
New Delhi. Mapusa Court on Monday extended the police remand of Luthra brothers Saurabh and Gaurav till December 26. The Luthra brothers are co-owners of Birch by Romeo Lane Nightclub. 25 people died and many were injured in a fire in this club on December 6. His custody has been extended by the Mapusa Judicial Magistrate First Class Court. Also, the court sent Ajay Gupta to judicial custody for 14 days. Gupta is the third partner of Birch by Romeo Lane. The Luthra brothers were deported from Thailand on December 16, after which they were brought to Goa.

After landing at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, the Delhi Court had given 48-hour transit remand of the accused to the Goa Police. After their arrest at Delhi Airport on December 17, the court had produced the accused in the Mapusa Judicial Magistrate First Class Court. The court had given police custody of the brothers for five days. Advocate Vishnu Joshi, representing the families of the victims, said new revelations have emerged in which the police have alleged that the brothers’ trade licenses and other related documents were forged. The government has initiated criminal proceedings against the club owners for alleged negligence and violation of mandatory safety norms, after 25 people lost their lives in the Arpora Nightclub fire on December 6. According to Goa Police, the fireworks were organized in the club without proper fire safety equipment and other necessary safety gadgets. Police said that at the crucial stage of the investigation it was necessary for the accused to be in police custody in Goa. While presenting in Patiala House Court, Goa Police said that the accused were the main owners and partners of Birch by Romeo Lane in Arpora area of North Goa and had complete control over the operation of the club.
