In such a situation, this election may remain just a formality. According to sources, the name of senior Bihar leader Nitin Nabin is being considered at the forefront in this election. Nitin Nabin is currently the National Working President of BJP and is recognized for his efficiency and experience within the party organization.
Nitin Nabin is a strong contender
The name of Bihar government minister and BJP working president Nitin Nabin is considered to be the strongest in the race for the post of national president. It is a common discussion inside and outside the party that if there is no major change then the announcement of Nitin Nabin’s name on January 20 is considered certain. Nitin Nabin was recently made the working president of the party on 15 December 2025. It has been the tradition of the party that the working president is later given the responsibility of full-time national president. This is the reason why his name is trending at the forefront.

If Nitin Nabin is elected National President, he will be among the youngest leaders to reach this post in the history of Bharatiya Janata Party. He is around 45 years of age and has been playing an active role in both the organization and the government for a long time. The BJP leadership believes that in the coming years, the party needs a president who can strengthen the organization at the grassroots level and connect young workers. Nitin Nabin’s political and organizational experience is being considered important in this regard.
The organizational election process of BJP has been completed in most of the states of the country. Internal elections of the organization have been completed in 29 out of total 37 states and union territories. The state presidents of these states will file nomination papers in support of Nitin Nabin for the post of national president. Apart from this, members of the National Council of the party will also file nominations in separate sets. According to the Constitution of BJP, the Electoral College consisting of National and State Council members elects the National President.
Connection of tenure and 2029 Lok Sabha elections
Under the BJP Constitution, any national president can hold office for a maximum of two consecutive terms, i.e. a total of six years. If Nitin Nabin becomes the president in January 2026, his tenure will last till January 2029. This will be the same time when Lok Sabha elections are to be held in the country. In such a situation, it is believed that the party leadership wants to bring forward a president who can keep the organization stable and strong during the entire election cycle. The possibility of extending the tenure if needed is also not being ruled out.
