India, Germany sign Memorandum of Understandings to enhance bilateral cooperation

PM Modi News: Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned the game changer mega project between India and Germany in the presence of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. In the joint press conference held after bilateral talks held at the Mahatma Mandir Convention and Exhibition Center in Gandhinagar on Monday, Prime Minister Modi underlined the importance of various agreements signed between the two countries.

Referring to the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, the Prime Minister said that it is a matter of special pleasure for him to welcome Chancellor Merz to India on the occasion of Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary. He said that it is a happy coincidence that Swami Vivekananda had established the bridge of philosophy, knowledge and spiritual relations between India and Germany. The Prime Minister further said that this visit of Chancellor Merz is providing new energy, new confidence and new expansion to the same bridge. He also said that as Chancellor, this is his first visit not only to India but to the whole of Asia, which is a strong testimony to the importance he attaches to relations with India.

Describing the visit as a milestone, Prime Minister Modi said that close cooperation between economies like India and Germany is important for the entire humanity. He said that growing trade and investment relations have provided new energy to the strategic partnership of the two countries. The Prime Minister said that bilateral trade has reached an all-time high and has crossed the $50 billion mark. He also mentioned that more than two thousand German companies have been active in India for a long time, which shows their unwavering faith in India and the immense potential here. The Prime Minister said that a live glimpse of this was seen in the India-Germany CEO Forum held this morning.

Referring to the agreements and mutual cooperation between India and Germany, the Prime Minister said that the technical cooperation between the two countries has become stronger every year, the effect of which is clearly visible on the ground today. He said that India and Germany have similar priorities in the field of renewable energy and to further enhance this cooperation, it has been decided to set up an India-Germany Center of Excellence. The Prime Minister said that this center will act as a common platform for knowledge, technology and innovation. He also said that both the countries are jointly pursuing new projects in areas such as climate, energy, urban development and urban transport.

Along with this, Prime Minister Modi mentioned that mega project which is going to prove to be a game changer for both the countries. He said that the new mega project launched between Indian and German companies in the field of green hydrogen will bring a significant change to the future energy requirements. The Prime Minister said that India and Germany are working together to build secure, reliable and resilient supply chains. He said that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed today on all these subjects will give new momentum and strength to the cooperation between the two countries.

Referring to the roadmap related to defense industry, Prime Minister Modi said that the increasing cooperation in the field of defense and security is a symbol of mutual trust and shared vision between the two countries. He expressed his gratitude to Chancellor Merz for simplifying the procedures related to defense trade. The Prime Minister said that a roadmap will also be worked out to advance cooperation between defense industries, which will create new opportunities for co-development and co-production.

Highlighting the people-to-people ties, the Prime Minister said that India and Germany have historic and deep people-to-people ties. Referring to Rabindranath Tagore and Madam Cama, he said that the works of Rabindranath Tagore gave a new vision to the intellectual world of Germany, while the ideology of Swami Vivekananda inspired the whole of Europe including Germany. The Prime Minister said that Madam Cama gave global recognition to our freedom struggle by hoisting the Indian independence flag for the first time in Germany. He said that today we are taking this historical association forward as a modern partnership.

Describing India’s skills as important, Prime Minister Modi said that special emphasis has been laid on migration, mobility and skill development. He said that India’s talented youth is making a significant contribution to the German economy. The Prime Minister said that the Joint Declaration of Intent issued today on Global Skills Partnership is a symbol of this confidence, which will ease the movement and opportunities especially for healthcare professionals. He also said that concrete steps have been taken to increase cooperation in the field of sports, which will prove to be an effective medium to connect the youth.

Prime Minister Modi said that the comprehensive roadmap prepared today in the field of higher education will give a new direction to our partnership. He invited German universities to open their campuses in India and thanked Chancellor Merz for announcing visa-free transit for Indian citizens. This will increase closerness between the people of both the countries. The Prime Minister also informed that the German Maritime Museum is being connected to the National Maritime Heritage Complex being built in Lothal, Gujarat, which is a historic step connecting the maritime history of the two countries. He said that Gujarat Ayurved University has had close cooperation with Germany in the field of Traditional Medicines and the agreements (MoU) signed today on this important subject will further strengthen our cooperation.
