When did the incident happen?
The incident took place on December 27 in Bongalmora area of Lakhimpur. On the basis of intelligence input, police had received information that Baharul Islam was hiding in Sonapur area. He is accused of posting posts praising the Pahalgam terrorist attack through fake social media accounts. He was absconding for a long time and was under the surveillance of security agencies.
The mob attacked the policemen
After the information was confirmed, the police team raided Sonapur area and took Baharul Islam into custody. But as soon as the team started leaving with him, a crowd of more than 10 people blocked the way. The mob, armed with sticks, attacked the policemen, beat them up and forcibly took away the accused.
Atabur Rehman is the mastermind
According to the police, this attack was carried out under the leadership of Atabur Rehman. Investigation has revealed that the attackers had made preparations in advance and were aware of the police movement. In this violent clash, Sub-Inspector Gokul Joyshree and the driver of the vehicle suffered serious injuries, while many other policemen were also injured.
10 accused arrested
Considering the seriousness of the matter, the police have registered a case under several sections of the Indian Justice Code (BNS). On Monday, 10 accused were arrested, including Afazuddin, Ikramul Hussain, Fakhruddin Ahmed, Noor Hussain, Gulzar Hussain, Nazrul Haq, Kazimuddin, MD Abdul Hameed, Bilal Hussain and main conspirator Atabur Rehman.
Already have crime record
Police say that many of the arrested accused already have criminal records. Baharul Islam himself has already been caught in a case of fake gold trading. After being rescued by the mob, he has gone underground again, but the police claim that the search for him has been intensified.
