Pakistan Army arrested many citizens of Balochistan and warned of consequences if they did not vacate their homes.
New Delhi. A new string of alleged enforced disappearances in Balochistan and Karachi have further raised concerns over human rights issues in Pakistan. Families and local sources claim that many people have been detained by Pakistani security forces and no trace of them has been found so far. These incidents mark the continuation of a troubling trend that has been going on in the region for a long time. On April 5, two teenage students were reportedly detained in Parum area of Panjgur district. The missing include a 17-year-old boy and 18-year-old Marwan, son of Hamza. Both of them are residents of Shaptan.

Statements of local people reveal that Frontier Corps personnel caught these students at around 5 pm and took them to an unknown place. Since then, their families claim that they have not received any information about their whereabouts. In a separate development, more than 25 people were reportedly detained during multiple raids conducted by Pakistani security forces in Surab district. Although the identity of the detained people is not yet clear, there is an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty among the local people after these operations. Some locals also alleged that officials directed people living near the FC camp to vacate their homes and warned of dire consequences failing to do so.
Meanwhile, in Karachi’s Lyari area, a youth named Sultan Saeed was reportedly taken into custody from Gul Mohammad Lane. His family claims that security personnel detained him and sent him to an unknown place. He also told that Saeed had earlier gone missing in January 2021 and no trace of him was found for almost two years, after which he suddenly surfaced. There was no immediate reaction from the authorities on these claims. These incidents add to the growing list of similar allegations emerging from Balochistan, where enforced disappearances are a frequent occurrence. Human rights organizations have consistently expressed concern over such cases and have appealed to Pakistani authorities to ensure transparency, follow the legal process and address the concerns of affected families.
