Reality across the border is visible, intelligence information is being received from Pakistan itself, claims Colonel Bhupinder Shahi
According to Colonel Bhupinder Shahi, in today’s times the need to send spies like Hamza to the enemy country is no longer the same as before. He told in a conversation that now the situation has become such that India gets important information from inside Pakistan itself. According to him, many people of Pakistan are troubled with their system and that is why they themselves are ready to come forward and share information.
He also told that intelligence inputs are continuously received from various border areas of India like Punjab, Jammu Kashmir, Gujarat and Rajasthan. If necessary, the people who came in contact are called near the border, information is taken from them and then they are sent back safely. Local networks and trust play a big role in this entire process.
When he was asked why a Pakistani citizen would spy for India, he clearly said that there are many reasons behind it. The biggest reason is financial crisis. People who do not have employment and have family responsibilities are ready to take this risk for money. Apart from this, some people also take such steps due to personal reasons, revenge or dissatisfaction.
Colonel Shahi also indicated that once the network is formed, the same people create further contacts thereby strengthening the intelligence network. Giving an example, he said that people of general profession working in border areas like laborers, cobblers, barbers etc. can also become a part of this network because their access and local knowledge is very useful. However, he also made some claims which need to be taken with caution.
This entire scenario shows that the nature of espionage is changing rapidly in modern times. Now it is not limited to just sending secret agents but it has become a complex system based on networks and human contacts. It is clear from the words of Colonel Bhupinder Shahi that the real power in the intelligence world lies in the sources of information and reliable networks and not just in any one spy.
