80-90% of lung cancer patients were ex-smokers, whereas 15-20% of lung cancer patients worldwide are now non-smokers, with the proportion even higher in India. On the environmental front, the government cited the National Clean Air Programme, under which coordinated air quality improvement action plans are being implemented in 130 non-attainment cities and cities with a population of over one million, including major metros, health ministry sources said.
