The roads of the state turned red with the blood of 19 thousand people and 35,761 injured.

The number of road accidents is continuously increasing in the state. From the year 2023 to 15 November 2025, a total of 41,829 accident cases were registered, in which 35,761 vehicle occupants were seriously injured and 19,066 people died.

In the year 2023, 11,723 people were seriously injured and 6,166 people died in 13,468 accidents. In 2024, this number increased to 14,857 accidents resulting in 12,484 injuries and 6,945 deaths. In the year 2025, 11,554 people were injured and 5,955 died in 13,504 accidents.

The number of vehicles registered in the state will reach 90,56,532 by October 2025. Increase in vehicle number, better condition of roads, speeding, drunk driving, helmet and negligence such as non-compliance with seat belts, and violation of permit conditions. Increasing security with cameras and surveillance

To stop the frequent road accidents, the Transport Department and the Traffic Police have started taking strict action against the drivers who violate the rules. Despite this there was no reduction in accidents. Now 84 cameras are being installed on various highways, so that vehicles breaking the rules can be immediately identified. 16 static way bridges have been installed to prevent overloaded vehicles.

To prevent accidents caused by unfit vehicles, automated fitness stations have been installed in Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg, Jagdalpur, Ambikapur, Rajnandgaon, Raigarh and Korba. Construction of ATS is also proposed in Janjgir-Champa, Balodabazar, Surajpur, Dhamtari, Kanker and Balod districts.

Highway patrol and appeal

Highway patrolling has been alerted to reduce road accidents. Drivers are constantly being appealed to follow the rules, wear helmets and seat belts and not drink and drive.

Additional Transport Commissioner D. Ravi Shankar said that the state government is taking all measures to reduce the number of accidents. During Road Safety Month, citizens will be informed about safe driving by running a public awareness campaign. Along with increasing the awareness of drivers and common citizens in the state, efforts will be made to ensure that the roads remain safe and accident free through strict monitoring.
