New Delhi: This summer season is going to be very difficult in India. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has recently released its seasonal forecast for March to May 2026. It is clearly stated that the temperature in most areas of the country will be higher than normal and the days of heat wave will also increase. This estimate is based on various global weather models and IMD’s own system.

Estimate of increase in temperature

According to IMD, the maximum day temperature is likely to be above normal in most areas during the period from March to May. The minimum temperature at night will also be higher than normal at most places, due to which people will not get relief even at night. This can have adverse effects on health, especially on the elderly, children and those working outside. There are exceptions in some areas.

In March, day temperatures may remain normal or slightly below normal in many parts, but the heat will intensify in April and May. Temperatures may remain at or below normal levels in some areas of North-West India and parts of Central India, while it will be hotter in East, East-Central and South-East India.

This year, heat wave days are expected to be much more than normal. Heat wave will prevail in large parts of East and East-Central India, many areas of South-East Peninsula and some areas of North-West and West-Central India.

IMD has warned that in parts of Western Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana, Punjab, South-Eastern Maharashtra, Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and North Karnataka-Tamil Nadu, heat wave days may be 3 to 15 more than normal.

Heat wave occurs when the temperature goes above 40 degrees Celsius and hot winds blow. This can increase problems like heat stroke, dehydration.

Day and night temperatures in March

Day temperatures in March may be below normal or normal at many places, but temperatures will be above normal in Northeast India, parts of Eastern India, Western Himalayan region and Central-South India. Night temperatures will be above normal in most areas. Nights may remain cold in some areas of the north-west and south peninsula.
