The stock market recovered to some extent from the big fall, but the benchmark index remained in the red for the fifth consecutive day.

Mumbai24 july. The domestic stock market closed in decline for the fifth consecutive session amid concerns over possible new US trade tariffs and rising geopolitical tensions in West Asia. Although on Friday, the last day of the trading week, both the standard indices were successful in recovering to some extent from the huge fall of the beginning, yet the BSE Sensex slipped by 332 points to near 76,000 while the NSE Nifty suffered a loss of 102 points.

According to market analysts, sentiment remained negative due to strong crude oil prices, withdrawal of foreign institutional investors and selling in HDFC Bank shares. Weakness in Asian markets also increased selling pressure at the domestic level.

Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE)’s benchmark index Sensex based on 30 shares fell 331.62 points or 0.43 per cent to close at 76,059.77. At one time, at the beginning of trading, it fell by 916.96 points or 1.20 percent to 75,474.43, although in the later hours it improved to some extent amid fluctuations and stopped beyond 76,000. Among Sensex related companies, 10 shares were in profit while 20 were in weakness.

At the same time, Nifty, the standard index based on 50 shares of National Stock Exchange (NSE), slipped by 102.15 points or 0.43 percent and closed at 23,767.45 points. The index, which opened with a weakness of 203 points compared to the previous evening, soon slipped by 263.30 points to 23,606.30 points. Among the companies associated with Nifty, 33 stocks remained negative while 17 registered gains.

Eternal’s shares fell the most by 2.34 percent

Among the companies included in the Sensex group, Eternal’s shares fell the most by 2.34 percent. Companies like Bajaj Finance, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bharti Airtel, Asian Paints and Infosys were also major losers. On the other hand, shares of HCL Tech, ITC, Axis Bank and Tata Consultancy Services closed with gains.

Global oil benchmark Brent crude fell below $100 per barrel.

According to stock market data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth Rs 2,999.23 crore on Thursday. Meanwhile, global oil standard Brent crude fell 3.66 percent to $96.98 per barrel. However, in the last session it had crossed $100.
