The story of the pain of separation across the Partition Museum of ‘My Waps Aunga’, what will you see when you visit?
Diljit Dosanjh-Naseeruddin Shah starrer ‘May Wapas Aunga’ was released recently. In the wake of Partition, this heart-wrenching love story is already receiving positive response from the audience. With the partition of India in 1947, millions of people were forced to leave their homes overnight. In an emotional scene of the film, Diljit appears at the Partition Museum in Amritsar to understand how people lived in those turbulent days. It is normal for this question to arise in the mind of the audience after watching the movie. This museum will also bring them face to face with a terrible chapter of the past.
This museum was opened for visitors in 2017 inside the historic Town Hall building of Amritsar. The memory of millions of people who suffered as a result of the dismemberment of India by the British is preserved here. The museum has 14 galleries, which tell visitors the history of partition from the beginning to the end. The museum takes visitors through the memories of the freedom movement that began in the pre-partition period. Here one can witness the rising tension of the time, demarcation of partition, immigration, refugee camps etc. Even all the challenges faced by the common countrymen in starting life anew after partition are also captured here.
Throughout the museum are trunks, clothes, utensils, letters, photographs, jewelry boxes and other everyday items that families brought with them when they crossed the border. Through audio and video stations, visitors will hear their own recollections of the events of 1947 through the mouths of eyewitnesses. At the end of the exhibition, tears are bound to come! Today’s audience will sympathize with the lost people.
