While granting regular bail, the Supreme Court directed that Ansari will have to strictly follow all the conditions imposed earlier while granting interim relief. Abbas Ansari is facing several criminal cases, but has already got bail in other cases. With this decision, he is now on bail in all cases. On behalf of the state, Additional Solicitor General K.M. Nataraj presented the case, but the court regularized the bail even after taking his arguments into consideration. This decision is considered a big legal victory for Abbas Ansari and his family.
Earlier, in September 2025, the Supreme Court had relaxed his bail conditions. Ansari was to live in the government accommodation allotted to him in Lucknow. Apart from this, Abbas Ansari’s membership in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly was also restored after the Allahabad High Court stayed his jail sentence in the case in September last year. Abbas Ansari was accused of giving hate speech during the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
It is alleged that he had said provocative things in a public meeting and had warned the government officials that after the Samajwadi Party came to power, he would settle scores with them and teach them a lesson. Mukhtar Ansari had considerable political influence in eastern Uttar Pradesh for decades. He had represented the Mau region several times. After the death of Mukhtar Ansari, his son Abbas Ansari carried forward the political legacy. He won the Mau Sadar seat in the 2022 assembly elections.
