This petition was filed by lawyer Vineet Jindal in Delhi High Court against this Netflix film. However, after the first look of the film, a controversy started regarding the name, this title was considered derogatory against the Brahmin community. After which Netflix had informed the Delhi High Court that the name of the film was being changed. Whatever content was there on the social media platform before that has also been removed. However, on this matter, the Supreme Court had asked Netflix and director Neeraj Pandey for the new name of the film. For which time was given till 12.30 pm on 12th February. But still the new name was not revealed by the makers. Now the Supreme Court has reprimanded the makers in this matter.

During the hearing, the bench asked the makers, why are you defaming a section of the society by using such a title, it is against morality and public order. SC has also directed to change the title. Regarding the ‘Briber Pundit’ case, the Supreme Court said that everyone has freedom of expression in the Constitution. But it has limits and cannot be given such a name. However, the lawyer has said that this matter is also in the High Court and the name of the film has not been decided yet. Regarding which Justice Nagarathna reprimanded the makers and asked whether you did not know the meaning of these words. If you do not clarify that this was not done intentionally, we will not allow the film to be released.

We will not allow your film to be released. However, during this time the lawyer said that he is changing the title of the picture. Regarding which Justice Nagarathna said that many communities are being deliberately targeted. How can you target someone personally. We are not just concerned about the film, but about the country’s unity, law and order and morality. However, in this matter, the Supreme Court has ordered the makers to file their reply by next week. Let us tell you that this matter will be heard on next Thursday i.e. 19th February.
However, while commenting on this matter, the Supreme Court also said that the date will not be given next time. Justice Nagarathna said that such actions spoil the harmony of the country. You should file an affidavit soon and do not tell anything changed. Apart from this, promotional material should be withdrawn. He also said that no one is allowed to do this in future. Freedom of expression does not mean hurting anyone.
