The tension of sending wrong messages is over! Smart ‘Undo Send’ feature comes in Google Messages

New Delhi . Many times a small mistake while chatting on smartphone becomes the cause of big embarrassment. Especially when, during an important or professional conversation, one accidentally clicks on the Smart Reply suggested by AI and the message reaches the other person without thinking. Now (Google) has found a solution to this problem. The company has introduced a new security feature in the (Google Messages) app, which will protect users from unknowingly sending wrong messages.

A new feature of Google Messages has been launched named ‘Tap to Draft’. This feature has been specially designed for those Android users who often face the problem of sending wrong messages due to Smart Reply. After the new update, now tapping on any AI-suggested reply will not send the message immediately, but will appear in the message box as a first draft.

Till now, as soon as you tap on Smart Reply in Google Messages, the message was sent directly to the other user. Many times the user wanted to choose another option or just wanted to see the suggestions, but the message was sent with a single tap. This could have created uncomfortable situations in personal, professional and office chats. Google’s new feature has been introduced with the aim of eliminating this problem.

The biggest feature of the ‘Tap to Draft’ feature is that the user will now get full opportunity to read, edit and change the message as per his need before sending it. If the answer suggested by AI is not completely correct, the user can make changes to it or delete it and write a new message. The final decision rests entirely in the hands of the user.

This change has come at a time when the use of AI based features is increasing rapidly. Although AI sometimes provides useful suggestions, in some circumstances its responses do not match the context of the conversation. In such a situation, sending message without review can cause problems. The new feature will reduce this risk to a great extent.

Activating this feature is also very easy. Users will have to go to the Settings of the Google Messages app and select the ‘Suggestions & Actions’ option. After this, the ‘Tap to Draft’ feature can be turned on by going to the ‘Suggestions’ section. At present this feature is available in Opt-in mode, that is, to use it the user will have to activate it himself. By default the app will still work on the old ‘Tap to Send’ mode.

Google has started releasing this feature with the latest stable version of Google Messages v20260522_00_RC00. Its testing started in March 2026 and after about three months of testing, it is now being made available to common users.

  • This new step in technology is being considered important in terms of user experience and digital security. In the coming time, this feature will help millions of Android users to avoid unintentional messaging mistakes.
