The US is preparing for a weeks-long ground operation against Iran, a war that could be devastating.
Desk. Seeing that the month-long war against Iran has yielded no results, US President Donald Trump has now begun new preparations. The Times of Israel, quoting the Washington Post, said that the US Defense Ministry, the Pentagon, is preparing for a weeks-long ground operation in Iran. It is claimed that the Pentagon is preparing options for a ground operation in Iran. These operations will be less than a full-scale invasion, but could involve thousands of troops and could last for weeks or months.
The report, citing US officials who spoke on condition of anonymity, said President Donald Trump has not yet approved any of these plans. Asked for comment on the report, the White House said the Pentagon works to provide the president with “maximum options,” but that doesn’t mean the president has made a decision. According to the Post, a potential operation could involve a mix of Special Forces and regular infantry conducting extended raids in coastal areas near the Strait of Hormuz.
The US ground operation could also aim to capture islands controlled by the Islamic Republic of Tehran and maintain their long-term control. Experts have warned that maintaining control of the area would put US troops at greater risk than they have faced in the war so far. So far, 13 US soldiers have been killed and more than 300 wounded in the conflict. The timing of potential operations is unclear. One source said achieving the objectives under consideration would take “weeks, not months,” while another estimated the operations could last “a few months.”
Meanwhile, amid these reports, Iran has intensified its war against its enemies. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has threatened American universities in the Middle East. The IRGC has said that all staff, professors, and students of American universities, as well as residents of surrounding areas, should stay at least one kilometer (0.6 miles) away from campuses. Many American universities are located in the Gulf region, such as Texas A&M University in Qatar and New York University in the United Arab Emirates. Iranian attacks took place on Friday night and Saturday in several places, including Tehran. The University of Science and Technology, northeast of the capital, was attacked, causing damage to buildings but no casualties. Meanwhile, the Iranian regime continues its attacks on neighboring Arab countries and Israel.
