It is not only used especially in Ayurvedic medicine but is also used in many products related to skin and hair care. But according to Ayurvedic doctors, it is very important to take precautions related to its use while using it because in some special conditions its use can also cause some problems.

What is Ratanjot: Dr. Manisha Kale, doctor of Arogyadham Ayurvedic Hospital, Mumbai, tells that Ratanjot is a medicinal herb which is used in many ways. This plant is mostly found in the Himalayan regions, from whose roots red colored oil is obtained. The fruits, leaves and roots of Ratnajot are used in Ayurvedic medicines, beauty products and as a natural dye for coloring hair and clothes.

Dr. Manisha Kale tells that Ratanjot is also mentioned in the Ayurvedic text 'Charaksamhita'. In which it is said that although Ratanjot has the tendency to increase phlegm, it also has many benefits for health, provided it is used in the right way and in the right quantity. It is noteworthy that Ratanjot has anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-viral and antioxidant properties. Besides, chemicals like naphtha quinone, flavonoids, alkenin and shikonin are also found in it.

Uses of Ratanjot: It is noteworthy that the powder and oil made from its root is used in many skin and hair care products, pain relieving oils, cosmetics and some Ayurvedic medicines. Apart from this, it is also used in some special types of food to enhance the color of the food. But it should be used in food in very small quantities. Otherwise, not only can the taste of food get spoiled but it can also cause many other problems. Apart from this, it is used as herbal dye for hair and clothes.

Benefits of Ratanjot: Doctor Dr. Manisha Kale says that using it in controlled quantity and with all precautions can provide many health benefits from Ratanjot. Some of which are as follows.

Ratanjot oil is rich in antiseptic properties, making it useful in treating minor wounds, irritation and itching on the skin.

It is also used in medicines and products to prevent hair fall and make them black and thick. It strengthens the hair roots and is helpful in getting rid of problems like dandruff.

Ayurvedic use of Ratanjot is used to purify the blood. It is considered helpful in removing toxic elements from the body and making the skin healthy.

Antioxidant properties are present in it, hence it is helpful in strengthening the immunity and is used in Ayurvedic medicines given for some problems related to cold and allergy.

Applying mixed oil of Ratanjot on the forehead can provide relief from problems like headache, insomnia and depression. Rubbing this oil on the forehead and smelling it can also provide relief in these problems.

Ratanjot has anti-inflammatory properties, which is helpful in reducing pain and swelling.
