“There can be differences in the remuneration…”Sunil Gavaskar makes a massive statement on KKR and Shreyas Iyer
Kolkata Knight Riders’ title-winning captain Shreyas Iyer will be one of the blockbuster players going under the hammer in the Indian Premier League Auction 2025. Iyer guided KKR to their last title in IPL 2024 and yet, shockingly, he was let go by the team before the mega auction taking place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on November 24 and 25. Indian cricketing stalwart Sunil Gavaskar is of the opinion that KKR may target Iyer in the auction. Also, he said that the right-hand batsman, who has previously captained the team, will be wanted by the Delhi Capitals as well.
It is scintillating to mention that, prior to the mega auction, DC has also removed their captain Rishabh Pant from their dropped players’ lists. Gavaskar thinks that the team/franchise will make attempts to secure him at the auction via the Right to Match (RTM) clause.
“Last year when KKR won (IPL 2024) Shreyas Iyer was the captain. I also said before for Rishabh Pant as well there can be differences in the remuneration,” Gavaskar stated in a piece of analysis in ‘Game Plan’ on Star Sports.
“Though, I do think when Shreyas Iyer goes under the hammer, I think KKR can even purchase his services. If KKR doesn’t purchase him, I think Delhi will. Because ‒ Delhi will need him because they will have to look for a captain themselves if Rishabh Pant is not there in their team. Therefore I think Delhi will certainly attempt to play the RTM card or try to get Rishabh Pant back in their team at the auction,” he said.
They also retained six players – Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Rinku Singh, Ramandeep Singh, Harshit Rana, and Varun Chakravarthy in the lead-up to the forthcoming mega auction.
While Rinku became KKR’s highest retention at Rs 13 crore, Varun, Sunil and Russell were retained for Rs 12 crore each. Harshit and Ramandeep were retained under the unsold Indian players category for Rs 4 crore each.
