There is a ‘chocolate’ city in India! Will you go on vacation or in this rock city at the foot of the Nilgiris?
Misty mountain trail. Eucalyptus scent. And a cup of hot chocolate. A piece of Switzerland in the arms of South India! Along with the green nature of nature, this coastal city is more attractive to tourists with a sweet pull. Tucked away in the lap of the Nilgiri Hills in Tamil Nadu, Ooty has become India’s very own ‘Chocolate City’, not just for its pleasant weather or history.
Ooty is the name of sweet memories
One of the attractions of Ooty tour is the handmade chocolates here. The cool climate in Konkan in the Nilgiris is perfect for chocolate making. No additional freezing is required here. Besides, Nilgiris dairy industry is ideal for fresh milk and cream. As a result, the taste of fruit-n-nut, dark chocolate or rum-flavored chocolate here is mind-blowing. Charing Cross, Commercial Road and the local markets are dotted with small chocolate shops. Travelers will also get the experience of directly seeing how chocolate is being made behind the glass counter.

Nature, as well as chocolate
Ooty’s appeal is not limited to chocolate. The slower pace of life and the calm atmosphere here are soothing. A walk along the eucalyptus-covered forest, well-kept botanical garden and lakeside is unforgettable. And there is the heritage toy train – Nilgiri Mountain Railway.

When and how to go?
October to June is the best time to visit Ooty. Crowds increase in summer to escape the heat of the plains. Easily accessible by car from Coimbatore, Mysore or Bangalore. If you want to come by air, the nearest airport is Coimbatore (about 85 km). From there you can get taxi or bus. If you want to come by train, the joy of reaching Ooty by the heritage toy train from Mettupalayam is different.
