There is no relief for the common people! Now only ethanol-mixed petrol will be available at the pumps; Center’s refusal to sell three types of petrol

New Delhi : The ongoing controversy over E-20 petrol shows no sign of abating. For some time ethanol-free and Ethanol blend People are demanding to make both types of petrol available. The government has clarified its position in this matter. The central government has completely rejected the demand to sell pure petrol (E0), E10 and E20 petrol simultaneously across the country. So now common citizens are likely to be affected.

According to the central government, if many types of petrol are sold simultaneously at petrol pumps, not only will the cost of fuel increase, but it will also create a big challenge in delivering it to all places. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has issued a circular clarifying that E-20 petrol (petrol containing 20% ethanol) will continue to be the standard petrol in the country. The government said significant investments have been made in factories, warehouses and logistics to promote the ethanol blending program in the country.

Contempt of Court: From shoe kicking to abuse! The issue of contempt of court is in discussion due to ‘those’ incidents in the Supreme Court

If the government backs down and goes back to the decision to make E-10 the standard gasoline, ethanol factories will go out of business. This will cause loss to farmers, companies, cooperatives and banks who have invested in the project.

Average 20 percent ethanol blend in gasoline

According to the data, India has met its target of blending an average of 20 per cent ethanol in petrol between November 2025 and June 2026, up from 19.2 per cent last year. This is a notification issued by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

What are the difficulties in selling different petrol?

Large network – According to the ministry, India has a vast fuel supply network, which includes more than 100,000 petrol pumps, oil refineries, depots, pipelines and storage tanks.

High cost – If three different types of petrol (E0, E10 and E20) are sold at each pump, separate storage tanks, pipelines and vehicles are required. This will make oil management and maintenance expensive.

Comparison with premium petrol – The argument that people are giving the example of premium petrol was also rejected by the government. The government said that premium petrol is sold in very small quantities and there is no need to create a separate supply network for it across the country.
