There may be a major reshuffle in the Pakistan Test team, now this player may get the captaincy in place of Shan Masood!

There are continuous changes taking place in Pakistan cricket and now a big change can be seen in the captaincy of the Test team as well. According to reports, Shan Masood can be removed from the captaincy of the Test team and Salman Aga can be made the new captain in his place. It is being told that after the continuous poor performance of the team, Pakistan Cricket Board has decided to take this decision.

How was Shan Masood’s captaincy career?

Actually, Shan Masood took over the captaincy of the Test team after the Australia tour in December 2023. Under his leadership, Pakistan played a total of 16 test matches, out of which the team faced defeat in 12 matches. The recent defeat against Bangladesh was the fourth consecutive defeat under his captaincy. Due to this poor performance, questions are now being raised on his captaincy. According to statistics, in the nearly 150-year history of Test cricket, excluding new Test countries like Bangladesh, Ireland and Afghanistan, Shan Masood has become the first captain among the top nine teams to lose his first 12 Test matches.

Salman Aga can be made captain

According to sources, Shan Masood had met Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and appealed to him to maintain continuity in the captaincy. But in view of the continuous poor results, the board now appears to be in a mood for change. Last year, in the third cycle of the World Test Championship, the Pakistan team finished ninth, which was considered a big setback for the team. Reports have claimed that Mohsin Naqvi and the board’s advisors are now considering Salman Aga as a better option for captaincy.

Difficult tour of West Indies and England in the next few months

Actually, Pakistan team has to undertake a difficult tour of West Indies and England in the next few months. The West Indies tour will start from July 25, where Pakistan has to play two Test matches. After this the team will go to England, where the first Test match will be played in Leeds from 19th August. In such a situation, the board wants the team to enter the field with new thinking and new leadership.

Shan Masood’s performance in batting has also not been very effective. In the recently concluded two-Test series, he scored only one half-century in four innings. In such a situation, questions are now being raised about his place in the team.

However, there does not seem to be much change in the coaching staff at present. Former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed will continue to serve as head coach, while Umar Gul will continue to hold the responsibilities of bowling coach. At the same time, the appointment of a new batting coach for the team is being considered before the West Indies tour.
