Kolkata: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while making a sharp political attack on Congress during his visit to West Bengal, has described the contribution of Jan Sangh founder Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee as an important chapter in the history of the country and especially Bengal. He said that Mukherjee’s role in saving the identity and honor of Bengal can never be forgotten.

Addressing a public program, the Prime Minister said that during the partition of the country, when there were serious challenges regarding the future of Bengal, Dr. Mukherjee strongly expressed his views and fought to protect the interests of the state. He alleged that the Congress leadership at that time failed to play a decisive role and the concerns of the people of Bengal were not given as much importance as they should have been given.
The Prime Minister said that the Bharatiya Janata Party has always tried to carry forward the ideas and principles of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. He claimed that the recent political changes in Bengal are the result of people’s aspirations and democratic power.
Increased hope for development
Not only this, in his address PM Modi also said that a new wave of change is visible in the state. According to him, there has been increased hope among the people regarding development, good governance and a better future. He said that a positive atmosphere is being seen in villages and cities, which is an indication of the changing political technology of the state.

The Prime Minister has also mentioned the work of fencing the India-Bangladesh border. He alleged that earlier there were many obstacles in this process, but now the work related to border security is being speeded up. Along with this, he described action against corruption as the priority of the government and said that strict steps are being taken in cases of misuse of public funds.
What was said about ‘Paschimbang Diwas’?
Apart from this, PM Modi has also emphasized the importance of ‘Paschimbang Diwas’ celebrated on 20th June. He said that the new generation should be aware of the formation of the state and the historical events related to it, so that they can better understand their history and heritage. Earlier, the Prime Minister participated in the International Yoga Day program in Kolkata and practiced yoga with thousands of people. His visit is being considered important in terms of issues related to state politics and development.
